Technopolis Ülemiste buildings achieved LEED® Green Building Certifications

Six Technopolis Ülemiste buildings have achieved LEED® certifications. Achieved certification levels verify excellent energy and environmental performance of the buildings.

Technopolis uses the LEED Volume Program for existing buildings and these buildings were certified using the Volume Program. These LEED® certifications are also first certifications achieved with version LEED® v4 in Estonia. LEED® v4 is the most demanding LEED® version available to benchmark existing buildings.

LEED® certification processes were conducted in 2017 and 2018. Achieved certification levels are

  • Lõõtsa 2A: GOLD
  • Lõõtsa 2B: SILVER
  • Lõõtsa 4: SILVER
  • Lõõtsa 6: SILVER
  • Lõõtsa 8: GOLD
  • Lõõtsa 8A: SILVER

During the certification processes, the operations of the buildings were assessed for three months and development measures were implemented. As a part of every project, policies for the building operation were developed and an energy audit, a water efficiency project and a tenant survey were conducted. In addition, the CO2 emissions of the heating and electricity consumption of Lõõtsa 2A, 2B, 4, 6 and 8 are compensated.

The LEED® Volume Program enables environmental certification of multiple buildings efficiently as well as spreads sustainability best practices across a real estate portfolio. Technopolis was accepted to the program due to its long-term commitment to sustainability and its numerous existing LEED® certifications in 2017.

LEED®, which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a program developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED® certification system is the program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings and communities. The rating system addresses building’s energy, water and material efficiency, indoor environmental conditions and building maintenance in accordance with sustainable development, among other things. Certification is based on an independent third-party evaluation of the building’s environmental features and is therefore internationally comparable.

Technopolis used Green Building Partners as their LEED consultant.
